WHO WE ARE

Our
Mission & Values

The Piece of Hope provides a variety of special education services to children in rural Nicaragua.

In Nicaragua resources are very limited for teachers, parents, or doctors to be educated about treating and teaching those who have special needs. At Piece of Hope families receive support, training, and hope for the future of their family member who has a disability. This program not only provides education to families, but to teachers and administrators as well. The program is facilitated within the Lighthouse Baptist School in Catarina, Nicaragua. The goal is for the program to be provided at no cost to the family and to continually train native teachers to become leaders in the program.

Our team

Nataly Villacorta
Teacher

Nataly works along side Paige learning all of the ropes of the program. Nataly has some experience with the special needs population and has taught 1st grade at the Lighthouse Baptist School for the last few years. Mrs. Villacorta has a heart for helping those who are struggling and who learn differently. When discussing the program and position with Paige, Nataly got tears in her eyes and confessed she had been praying about an opportunity to work with those who have special needs. We are so blessed to have such as driven and willing to learn person on our team at the Piece of Hope.

Karina Calero
Teacher

Karina is the newest member of the Piece of Hope team and brings so much to team. Karina is married and has two daughters age 6 and 10 years old. Karina is a licensed psychologist and has experience with working children who have Autism. Karina has a heart to serve those around her. This is evident in her evolvement in her local church by teaching Sunday school and helping with other events when they come around. Karina is happy to be able to use her knowledge of psychology and her passion to share the love of Jesus Christ with the families at the Piece of Hope. Karina is a huge asset to our team.

Paige Ferrell
Director

Paige received her bachelors and masters degrees in special education from Texas A&M University. There is a huge place in Paige's heart for individuals who have special needs because her brother, Paden, has Autism. Growing up Paige always knew she would help those who needed a little extra assistance but never really knew exactly how until God brought her to Nicaragua and God revealed the need. Paige does assessments with all students in the program and makes unique goals for each student based on their needs and the needs of their families. Paige trains the teachers exactly how to teach those goals and take data to show progress. Paige's vision is to continually train new teachers to reach as many families as possible with the love of Jesus Christ. In July 2019 Paige married Juan Carlos Sánchez Hernandez, a man who loves the Lord more than he loves Paige! They live in Catarina, where Juan Carlos is from. Juan Carlos is a doctor and strives to serve God with his talents as well.
